
The American Association of Pastoral Counselors is the primary professional group certifying pastoral counselors in the United States. For the purposes of governance and fellowship AAPC is divided into 10 regions.
The Southeast region covers a geographical area of 7 states, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
Brief History of Pastoral Counseling
Religious communities have traditionally sought to provide spiritually-based solutions for those in trouble. Clergy have listened intently to personal problems for centuries, and have cultivated a spiritual counseling response to those who suffer from mental and emotional illness. Traditional spiritual counseling continues to help many of these people. It was recognized long ago, however, that in many cases specialized professional care was necessary for effective treatment. The purpose of the Region is to provide nurture AAPC Members, Pastoral Counseling Centers, and Professional Affiliates in fulfilling their roles as psychotherapists. Through Education, Fellowship, and Peer review, the Region seeks to enhance both the Theological/Spiritual and Psychological health of persons, families, and organizations. Read more…

Membership in the Southeast Region of American Association of Pastoral Counselors
Finding your way into AAPC membership in the Southeast Region can be complex and rewarding. Becoming a member introduces you to a community of peers for whom the integration of spirituality and behavioral sciences is an ongoing and active part of their practice and consultation.
